Read previewFor Katelin Holloway, the people who say creator startups are "dead" are missing the point of the creator economy entirely. "I'm not talking about the epic stars and the MrBeasts of the world," Holloway told Business Insider. This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Holloway is a founding partner at Seven Seven Six, the early-stage VC firm started in 2020 by Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian. The end of the hype cycle around creator-economy startups is part of the intrinsic nature of venture capital — VC "loves hype cycles," said Holloway.

The success of the IPO is contingent in part on the state of the IPO market, which has struggled in recent years. When Reddit first began preparing to go public in late 2021 — a record-breaking year for venture capital — some thought the company could be valued as high as $15 billion in an IPO. Investors are hoping that 2024 will be a more active year for the IPO market. This year's IPO market may also be helped by the Fed's promised rate cuts and a weak M&A market. The last time a social media company went public was in 2019.

Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian shared his typical work and family routine. Before marriage, he said he was terrible at finding any semblance of balance between work and life. If you're chasing balance, you're implying, like Thanos, [that] you'd be able to create something perfectly balanced. "There are times in your life where you will need to focus on the career, the work," Ohanian says.
